Ensuring you get the care you need

What to expect

Frankston Medicare Urgent Care Clinic provides care for urgent but non-life-threatening conditions. GPs and nurses will assess you when you arrive. We will ensure you receive immediate care. If you need specialist attention, we will help you get to a nearby emergency department.

Surge Protocol Disclaimer

The Frankston Medicare Urgent Care Clinic has a ‘surge protocol’ like many other MUCCs and health services in Australia. If the number of patient presentations overwhelms the doctor and nurse model (ratio) working, which can be unsafe, or, if there are more presentations than the MUCC is able to see before the scheduled closing time, the MUCC will go into ‘surge protocol’. Patients will be triaged by the triage nurse and if safe to do so, referred to another medical service, including the local emergency department(s), or will be asked to see their GP or usual healthcare provider the following day.

If the Medicare Urgent Care Clinic is unavailable, alternative options for care include:

Nurse-On-Call

Contact Nurse-On-Call on 1300 60 60 24 if you want to speak to someone over the phone or need advice on whether you should seek further medical help. Help is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You will be connected to a registered nurse for immediate, expert health advice.

Virtual Emergency Care

For urgent care from home or anywhere, Virtual Emergency Care is a free 24/7 service that connects you to an emergency doctor or nurse from your computer or mobile. Virtual Emergency Care is delivered by the Victorian Virtual Emergency Department (VVED). Pre-register with the Victorian Virtual Emergency Department at

www.vved.au/self_registrations

Maternal and Child Health Line

Families can get 24/7 support by calling the Maternal and Child Health Line on 13 22 29. This is a telephone service staffed by qualified Maternal and Child Health nurses. The telephone line provides over-the-phone information, advice and referral to all families with young children (from birth to school age).

Prescriptions

We do not prescribe Schedule 8 medications (or benzodiazepines). The MUCC GP can prescribe medication necessary to manage your urgent medical issue, but please continue to see your regular GP for routine prescriptions or chronic medications.
